Character Information
Name: Gilgamesh Wulfenbach
Canon Origin/Series: Girl Genius
School Year: Fifth
Gender: Male
Age: 15
Out of school living location: Wulfenburg, Germany
Blood status: Pureblood
Personality: Gilgamesh Wulfenbach is an easygoing young man, most of the time, with his attention most usually going towards things of a non-destructive nature. He will often come across as charming, if not endearingly oafish along with it at times, with a penchant towards the romantic, and will go out of his way to do things on a purely sentimental basis which seem to be of little importance. The latter of these is shown when, in the beginning of the comic, he saves a goldfish twice (in the middle of a battle) before later adopting it. The projects he takes on are ones to which he will devote endless attention, and he shows pride in his achievements, but he’s not above taking advice from other people in order to improve them. His excitement over new ideas can sometimes lead him to put aside animosity in favour of pushing ahead, but it’s easier said than done to continue it once he remembers just why he doesn’t like the person he’s trying to work with.
He’s brave, often to the point of putting himself directly into the path of danger and sometimes without a full idea in mind of just what it is he’s going to do while an enemy ten times his size bears down on him. Quick thinking definitely works for him in situations like these, and he’s certainly not short of that. Some credit for that can be given to his father’s constant testing of him, which he shows exasperation with more than once.
While he is definitely ruthless he also has a surprisingly merciful side, shown towards those who he believes are innocent or who had no idea that what they were doing was wrong. He won’t hesitate to threaten harm to someone in order to have them do what he wants them to, or to carry out said threats when his expectations are not met, and can seem remarkably unaffected when push comes to shove and he does, indeed, have to hurt somebody. His temper, when riled, is quite formidably explosive, but he retains focus throughout, making it a foolish thing to attempt to use anger to throw him off his game. He can use it to his advantage, while still being able to be calm and civil to people who are not in the line of fire.
He is very talented, possessing a sharp intellect and a level of ingenuity that allows him to turn almost any situation in to his favour. Gilgamesh also has a flair for feigning ignorance in order to direct suspicion away from himself and to provoke his enemies into revealing information that he would not otherwise have been able to access. Playing the fool also causes him to be underestimated, something which can be a fatal mistake.
Canon Background: Girl Genius Wiki
Background (AU!Canon; HP): Gilgamesh is the son of Klaus Wulfenbach, the current Political Magic professor at Hogwarts. He was brought up with a father who was either absent or, when present, providing him with tests and challenges which were both aggravating and often unable to be detected as such until he had passed them. As such, he grew up to have a strained relationship with his father and a pressing, subconscious need to be better than him, or at least to be better than everyone around himself so that he could prove himself as something in his father’s eyes – though he would never admit to such. They have never had what could be called a close father-son bond, and Gilgamesh is never very keen to spend long amounts of time in his company, but he does relish the conversations they have at an intellectual level. While Klaus may have been a poor parent as far as nurturing was concerned, it couldn’t be said that he didn’t give his son a strong drive to succeed.
Starting school allowed him the kind of escape and separation from his father’s influence that he needed and gave him the opportunity to step out from under Klaus’ shadow. Like his father, he quickly showed himself to be very adept in the more hands-on classes, with Potions and Defence Against the Dark Arts being two in which he fared very well from the start. His success in Charms has always been varied, but he showed a natural aptitude for Transfiguration from his first class, in which he turned everyone’s hair into string. Classes that require memorisation were never too difficult for him, and though he tends to become bored he (almost) always hands his homework in on time… even if it might have a few scorch-marks on the corners.
He made friends in school very easily, often roping them in for his bizarre experiments and no doubt injuring all of them at least once. Almost from the start, he had a healthy rivalry with another student by the name of Tarvek Sturmvoraus, a boy from a family who were political rivals to his own. They were friends despite always trying to best one another, until Gilgamesh found the other boy sneaking around his home late at night while he was visiting over the summer. Tarvek made no move to refute Gilgamesh’s accusations and the trust which had built up between them was effectively ruined by this one event.
Now, with the arrival of Klaus at the school, Gilgamesh is once again at risk of slipping under the shadow of his father and he will do next to anything to make sure that doesn’t happen.
How would your character fit in to each House?
Gryffindor: A good fit for someone like Gilgamesh. His tendency to throw himself into dangerous situations and his disregard for rules would fit well into Gryffindor, as well as his (usually) easygoing nature and his tendency towards sentimentality and romantic ideation. He is very enthusiastic, and his charm makes him an easy boy to get along with. However, his undoubted ruthlessness may cause him some problems.
Hufflepuff: Probably not the best. While Gilgamesh has it in him to be merciful and kindhearted he would make a very poor Hufflepuff, and if placed here would probably be more inclined towards taking advantage of his fellow students.
Ravenclaw: With his intelligence and ready wit, Ravenclaw is another house that Gilgamesh would be suited for. He would no doubt relish being surrounded by people who could challenge him intellectually, but his recklessness may put him at odds with them.
Slytherin: His ruthlessness and habit of threatening those who fail to immediately do as they’re told would make him a good Slytherin candidate, as does his ability to fake ignorance in order to draw information from other people, but his bravery and willingness to put himself into danger for his friends don’t fit quite as well.

‘Raised’ is just a slight overstatement, don’t you think, father?
Regardless, I have no intentions of allowing my grades to slip while I make the most out of enjoying my youth so I can assure you that you have nothing to worry about. I do, in fact, care about my education and would never throw it away for the brief, stilted satisfaction that rebelling against you might give me when you might not even notice that I’m doing it.
With that in mind please note that my continued high grades will in no way be due to this little pep-talk, and if you believe that my rebelling would be an age-appropriate thing for me to do I’m sure I can find some way to do it that won’t be damaging to my schooling. Thank you for the… advice.
[Because this is a test, right? Right?]
Third Person Sample:
“Easy… easy…”
Gilgamesh squinted one of his eyes closed as he slowly tipped the bottle in his hand over his cauldron, a small frown furrowing between his eyebrows and his lower lip caught between his teeth. One wrong move and this could all go horribly, horribly wrong. His companion was holding her breath, he could feel how tense she was without even needing to look at her, and he grinned slightly.
“Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing,” he said, and it was only half a lie. He knew what he was doing in theory, but in practice…
Minutes later, a group of students came hurrying out of the second floor corridor and down the steps, followed by a slowly rolling cloud of purple smoke. In the classroom, Gilgamesh stood, a slightly shell-shocked expression on his face, his hair sticking up and dyed a bright, near-luminous shade of pink.
“… Wow,” he breathed out after a few seconds had passed, coughing and wafting one hand in front of himself. “Excellent. Not exactly what I had in mind but, you know, trial and error. I’m going to chalk this one up to experience. Hand me the Valerian Root, won’t you?”
